Louer une voiture en Suisse — des réponses claires

Des réponses courtes et sourcées aux questions que les voyageurs posent le plus.

Vignette

Do I need a vignette to drive a rental car in Switzerland?

Yes — a motorway vignette (CHF 40 for 2026, valid Dec 2025–Jan 2027) is mandatory to use Swiss motorways. Every JetCar rental already includes a valid vignette, so you can drive on the motorway straight away with nothing extra to buy or affix.

Deposit

How big is the deposit to rent a car in Switzerland?

Expect a refundable deposit of roughly CHF 1,000–3,000, pre-authorised (held, not charged) on a credit card in the main driver’s name. JetCar releases the hold after the car is returned without damage. Debit cards are accepted only on lower categories.

Automatic

Can I guarantee an automatic rental car in Switzerland?

Automatics are common but can sell out and often cost ~CHF 10/day more. Because JetCar guarantees the exact model you book — never “or similar” — reserving an automatic means you are certain to receive one, which matters for drivers who cannot drive a manual.

Documents

What documents do I need to rent a car in Switzerland?

You need a driving licence held for at least two years, a passport or ID card, and a credit card in the main driver’s name. Non-Latin licences should be accompanied by an International Driving Permit. JetCar verifies your licence in the app before pickup.

Cross Border

Can I drive a Swiss rental car to Italy, France or Germany?

Yes. JetCar rentals may be driven into Italy, France, Germany and Austria if you tell us at booking so we arrange the cross-border authorisation and insurance. A modest cross-border fee may apply; neighbouring-country tolls and vignettes are your responsibility.

Pricing

What is the cheapest way to rent a car in Switzerland?

Book early, travel outside August (prices can rise ~40%), and choose all-in pricing to avoid counter upsells. JetCar’s rates include the vignette and a guaranteed model, so the price you see is the price you pay — no surprise fees at pickup.

Winter

Do Swiss rental cars have winter tyres?

Between roughly mid-November and the end of March, JetCar fits winter tyres as standard, and snow chains are available for mountain passes. There is no legal date in Switzerland, but you must have appropriate tyres for the conditions or you can be fined.

Business

Does JetCar offer corporate and fleet car rental in Switzerland?

Yes. JetCar for Business gives companies premium cars across Zürich, Geneva, Basel and Lugano with the guaranteed exact model, consolidated monthly invoicing, DKV fuel-card settlement and a dedicated account manager. Request a fleet quote from the business page.
